Easy, interesting reading of much more information about this part of California (San Diego to San Francisco) than I was able to absorb in one reading! I took almost a month to meander through this well-researched look into history, geography, flora & fauna, and the current situation in a swatch of the West Coast. Made several notes of places to investigate on my own travels. Recommended it to several friends. It’s not compelling reading yet well worth the time I spent in its atmosphere. A bit overwritten in parts … what one might call purple prose but not so much as to completely put off a reader who’s interested in the mission conquest & everything that instigated. I’m probably going to try his Coastal book later.
