This story took me a bit longer to get into, but by about halfway through or so I was really enjoying it. I never quite know what to say about Willa Cather’s books, She wrote these seemingly simple stories about simple, regular people, and somehow created masterpieces. My experience with them is often more about how they make me feel than the story itself. I love her writing. She never “over writes” or drags on through long descriptions. Every word feels intentional and thoughtful, and when the story ends I always feel a bit sad that it’s over.
