While I loved the connection to the land and nature, and, from that direction, loved the setting, I found the overall story too oversimplified and too melodramatic. This has been done before and done better. And while this was still a three-star book for me, I found it difficult to truly care about the outcome of the characters. No one seemed to warrant enough sympathy or disgust for any single character to come to the forefront and pull me in.
