The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas
4.0

Excellent classic about treachery, love, and revenge. I had a little bit of trouble keeping the large cast of characters straight, so I had to map them out on a sheet of paper to remember who did what to whom when. But other than this, the easy-to-follow prose of Dumas and the engaging plot made this a definite page-turner. You won't see a lot of character development in most cases, as Dumas is definitely a plot-driven author. However, it's a great read nonetheless, and definitely one of those easily-accessible classics, if you wanted to get someone to pick something outside of their normal comfort zone.
