White Fragility: Why It's So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism by Robin DiAngelo
challenging
medium-paced
3.0
The few times that I have directly brought up racism with other white people, it did not go well. White Fragility made me realize that it probably wouldn't have gone well even if I had been perfectly thoughtful and careful in my approach. That's a relief.
On the other side of the coin, I'm not proud of how I reacted the handful of times that people of color have directly pointed out something racist that I said. I wasn't as bad as some of the examples given in this book (like the lady whose coworkers said the criticism was going to give her a heart attack, wtf?) but I definitely could taken time to really listen to the feedback instead of immediately seeking absolution.
Food for thought.
