Quality-wise this is more of a 4 star book but on a reread I found the smug superiority of the narrative voice in that classist, xenophobic English-of-the-era way so distracting that it really interfered with my reading. I kept angrily disagreeing with the assumptions and offering counterexamples in my head and that kept taking me out of the narrative...
