Tender Is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica
4.0
I have put off Tender is the Flesh for an embarrassing long time. partially, it was shake the expectations i built off others reactions (“grossest thing in the world!” or “too try hard”) but mostly i am just horrid at reading the books im most looking forward to. i will say i do think the pacing of the book is a bit awkward, especially considering how short the chapters are even when the scenes are much longer, but the book itself is also quite compact. i also feel that the ending was more of a twist than it needed to be considering the shocking nature of the books premise and the fact we are within Marcos’s perspective for the story.
nonetheless, this book could easily have been cheap for the sake of gore and the author does a great job at avoiding those pitfalls. this is a human story, a special one at that.
