Pageboy by Elliot Page

slow-paced

2.0

I sat on reviewing this book for 5 days because I had no idea how to say what I needed to say, and I still don't...so here goes nothing:

This book was all over the place. I feel like this non-linear path was so confusing. Maybe it played out better in the physical copy of the book. But my goodness this was just not a smooth read. I really wanted to like it, I really wanted it to be more than it was. I really wanted to have an exploration of the thought processes and feelings behind the transitioning or life after, but all we received here was how hard it was to be a lesbian and a tomboy (his words, not mine), and somehow a whole lot of pooping.

I felt like the only semi-linear path was when he started talking about his relationship with Kate.... but even then, I was mixed up and there were flashbacks to childhood.

My other gripe is the obvious flaws in the audio editing. There were times when the same portion of a sentence was repeated with different inflections and it was seemingly an obvious mistake in how Page wanted to convey the sentence and was choosing how to say it.

I hate that I disliked this book this much, but... I did.
