Next of Kin by Hannah Bonam-Young

hby does it AGAIN. this and out on a limb (and i guarantee the rest of hannah's work) are so desperately beautifully written.

when chloe and warren, 25 and 24 respectfully, are given the chance to join a new program that would allow them a better chance and being granted guardianship of their younger siblings, they decide living together is worth dealing with the other, though it's not easy at first. warren's trust issues from being abandoned since he was a kid force him to keep chloe at a distance. chloe's apprehension to share too much of herself in fear of being too much has her keeping warren at a similar distance.

but their souls were fated to each other, because they can't help but (slowly) letting the other see them. warren quiets chloe's fears and reassures her that he wants to see all that others regarded as "too much", he wants the messy especially because of it being part of her. chloe shows warren that people are capable of staying and fighting for him.

they're both just two people who gradually heal the broken child that's inside of the other, building a foundation, a home, that protects them then, now and will last forever.

warren and chloe are such perfect examples of soulmates. chloe is warren's peace and warren is chloe's confidence. they make compliment and make each other want to be better versions of themselves, the best sort of partnership.

ugh, i loved everything about this. ilysmhby <3
