Captain America: Winter Soldier by Ed Brubaker

5.0

While ultimately I like the way the story unfolded in the movies better, this was deeply satisfying in its own way and I loved the focus on Lukin, Karpov, and Red Skull's role in Bucky's transformation. (Also--1944 Bucky speaking Russian in Kronas--<3333333) I made the mistake in 2014 of trying to jump into this storyline with the Winter Soldier omnibus--this is a much better starting point!

I loved Brubaker's original pitch notes in the back of this edition, too--it was super cool to see all the wack-ass plot threads he originally wanted to put in it, and how he thought he'd put the Bucky reveal in Issue 2. LOL LOLOLlll glad to know even professionals completely lose their sense of pacing sometimes. But yeah, I definitely need to read other Brubaker projects.
