A Curse for True Love by Stephanie Garber
5.0
Now, I know what you’re probably asking: “Kaya, why did you give A Curse For True Love 5 stars when you gave both Once Upon A Broken Heart and The Ballad of Never After 3.75?”
And, I’ll admit, I’m honestly just as confused as you are. But hear me out. ACFTL felt different than the other books from the first page and I predicted it would be 5 stars very early on. The plot was coherent, the writing was beautiful, Evangeline’s character development was spectacular (I loved her so much in this one but I had mixed feelings toward her in the others), most of my questions from the other books got answered, and we finally got the dual POV we’ve all been begging for. Case closed.
It honestly feels like ACFTL is the only book Stephanie Garber went into with a set storyline, knowing what she was going to write. The plots of OUABH and TBONA were just such a mess that there is simply no way she had them planned out and thought through beforehand.
But this, THIS? Perfection. A masterpiece. Has my heart. I contemplated pulling an all-nighter to read it all in one sitting (but unfortunately decided to be a responsible adult and finish it the next day. They say sleep is good for you, y’a know?). I kicked my feet and screamed into my pillow. I jumped up and down in my room (specifically when a certain someone finally got the crap beaten out of them. Iykyk) and found any excuse I could to be reading. I giggled and cried. I’m obsessed and in love. 5 stars.
*spoiler*
Oh and am I the only one who thinks there might be a novella or another book coming since 1) Jacks still has one more kiss left, 2) we still don’t know why he’s always eating an apple, and 3) we deserve to see more of their happily ever after?! Please! Also, the Barnes and Noble special edition extra chapter definitely should have been part of the actual book for a little more finality. I read the Waterstones extra chapter, though, too and didn’t like that one at all
