The Elf Tangent by Lindsay Buroker

4.0

Aldari, a princess with uncommon interests in economics and mathematics, is duty bound to travel to a country she’s never been and marry a prince she’s never met to make an alliance saving her country against the empire. Kidnapped along the way with her bodyguard friend, Theli, she must solve centuries old puzzles to save the elves and escape in time to the marriage to save her people. That is if she can stay alive long enough through this unexpected adventure with dangerous wild animals, wild men attacks, pirates, and cursed elves.

I liked the characters and the witty banter between Aldari, Theli, Hawk, and even sometimes Setvick. I appreciated that Aldari was willing to defend herself and help out even though she was only an “economist”. I enjoyed the subtle imagery, lore, and world building.

The only things I didn’t like were the few sexual innuendos and a couple uses of minor swear words. But that is personal preference and it really didn’t detract from the story. Trigger warning: There is an instance of attempted rape.

Overall, I enjoyed this fast paced stand alone adventure. The author said she might make more with these characters or in this world which would be fun to read about.
