This is Book 1 of the Twisted Land Series.
What an utterly unique concept for a book - I wasn't expecting this, especially with the mysterious vibes throughout!
We are introduced to a girl who interestingly is never given a name at first. This very cunning trick drags you in as you learn more about her but not her name.
At pagge 37... all is revealed, but it is a brilliant way of introducing a character!
Jennifer (as we now know her to be known as) is a Creator of Worlds and an Alyla. She is a bit of a loner, instead preferring her own company tending to her worlds in the tunnels around her home.
She is also fierce and highly able, which is recognised by 'The Council' as they try and enlist her to help their cause. Only she can save multiple worlds!
I absolutely loved reading about Jennifer's home and how she created and maintained worlda and also how the other Alyla's have their own unique flair.
Steve is big on the world building in his book, but you absolutely need this, after all the entire book centres around Creator of Worlds, but this is a fantasy book, so you absolutely expect.
What I can say is that Steve doesn't overwhelm you like some fantasy books that like to build their worlds. His writing immerses you and allows you to create these worlds, which is fantastic.
For a 214-page book, it has been a fantastic and enjoyable read from start to finish without being rushed. It is a brilliant medium pace, so you can appreciate everything in the story.
It was a fantastic start to the series, and I cannot wait for Book 2. In the meantime, I'll be checking out Steve's other work!
Highly recommend!
