The Hunted by Roz Nay

4.0

Two couples stuck on a remote African island but one of them is a killer.

This was my first book by BC resident Roz Nay and definitely won't be my last! I loved the premise and how the story kept me guessing right to the end. The story starts off with a propulsive prologue and then builds back up to the events that led to a nail-biting conclusion. Every time I thought I had something figured out things would go in a completely different direction.

Told in alternating perspectives from Stevie, a young woman travelling with her boyfriend Jacob and Leo, the boy they meet one night staying in a hostel with his girlfriend Tamsin. Stevie is looking for a fresh start and dealing with past traumas. Leo also has lots of secrets and forms an unhealthy obsession with Stevie that drives the suspenseful plot.

The author does a great job drawing on her own experiences traveling and working as a dive instructor which certainly added an extra layer of authenticity to the story. Anyone looking for a good escape read will enjoy the travel descriptions, although personally it made me want to never go anywhere Stevie and Jacob stayed (roach buns!! shudder!!).

Unfortunately not out on audio yet but I was able to pick up a copy to read and wow, what a beautifully designed book - the cover and picture inserts inside are top notch. Highly recommended for suspense lovers that want an edge of your seat summer thrill ride!
