Birds Art Life: A Year of Observation by Kyo Maclear

5.0

This was a case of the right book at the right time. It’s the type of book that, had I read it at another time, I might have found it insufferable, but as it stands I absolutely loved it. Birds Art Life is the type of contemplative and personal book that’s extremely hard to describe while doing it justice. It invites the reader to follow along at the pace of birding (maybe, I’ve never been), plunging them in their own present as much as in Kyo Maclear’s life. Somehow, it manages to be a peaceful read while dealing with topics that usually spark anxiety. I’ll be paying attention to the birds outside my window (at least this week) and, more importantly, to the little things.
