Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

5.0

Vampire Academy was my gate drug for YA novels.
This was actually the first YA book I ever read and years passed by before I get my hands on #2.
(Note: I couldn't afford buying books as a kid/teen, so I rarely had the chance to choose what I would read. Most of the times, I just read books I found at my mom's library ( thank God there were a thousand of them) or at the public library. Due to that I read a lot of YA books when I was already an adult and felt really bad for not having the chance to read them earlier)

So, YA has always been a way for me to escape or face reality. These series especially did a lot for me.
The characters are truely eloquently built and the whole universe Mead has created is amazing. I really enjoyed the fact that although her books follow the regular plot ( girl meets boy- perfect match- universe: here is something to fuck up), her main characters are independed, dynamic women who take charge of their lives and try to do their best despite the difficulties and I believe that is a message modern teenagers - especially girls- should be able to receive through literature.
