The Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick
3.0

The book dives deep into Pat’s manic mind and every character seems to spend some time in their own version of “the bad place.” It’s messy, raw, and real—a reminder that no one is untouched by struggle.

I especially loved the “Dance Away Depression” competition—such a perfect symbol for finding joy in the middle of the storm. One thing that did trip me up was how often the author points out that Danny is black. It read like Pat had never met a Black man before. Maybe the intention was to show how mental health connects us across differences, but the execution missed the mark for me.
