Gallows Hill by Darcy Coates
4.0

Darcy Coates is a masterful storyteller, and I became instantly absorbed in the happenings at Gallows Hill. Nooses appear in the night, strange knocks and other noises abound, all set against the backdrop of our main character’s mysterious history. It creates an intense and curious accumulation of anticipation as to what is at hand. There are moments of slow-build suspense and claustrophic conditions that give rise to a complete, full sensory experience: you smell the soil, taste the grit, feel the damp dirt, as well as hear the MC’s panicked pulse of a heartbeat. I was totally immersed, constantly guessing, and very happy to escape into this world for a few hundred pages. No spoilers…but if you are a fan of the author, I think you’ll enjoy this tale of terror and redemption.
