Killing Me Softly by Nicci French

Disclaimer: I won this book in a Goodreads First Reads giveaway.

If I were to judge this book by it's cover, I would immediately put it back down. It looks corny and cheap, right? Honestly, I don't even remember why I entered this giveaway, but I am glad I did. Killing Me Softly lives up to the hype and really gripped me from the beginning. The romance is a little weird, seeing as the main character becomes infatuated instantly with a stranger. That usually bothers other people, but I really didn't mind too much. The plot develops quickly, and the reader is instantly pulled into a wild plot that expertly uses an unreliable narrator to pull us in. I couldn't figure out if the main character (Alice) was acting rationally or insanely, and the guy she's crazy for (Adam), was also a hard read. I was constantly going over everyone's actions in my head to try to figure out what was happening, and as much as I honestly tried to figure it out, I was wrong and surprised when every twist happened. You don't know what's coming next, and you cannot trust the characters. Pick this up.
