Before the Feast
by Saša Stanišić
3/5stars
This book was VERY strange, but also very enjoyable.
This novel follows the lives of the inhabitants of a German village the day before their yearly event of "the feast." I really enjoyed how we followed all the characters separately yet they came together slowly and eventually everyone was together for the feast.
My favorite of the characters and stories was definitely that of Anna and Herr Schramm, as well as I really like johann and Suzi.
I liked how the author really gave each and every character distinct personalities and managed to flesh out such a large cast in such a short amount of pages - including a vixen.
But, I was lost. There were many times I was confused as to who was who, and many characters seemed to have more than one name. I was also lost as to what the plot actually was, and what this "feast" entailed. I felt myself reading and enjoying what I was reading but also consistently asking why? What's the point? Why is this being shown? Just overall, why?
But, this was a very enjoyable, unique, strange read!
