We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

5.0

This is my first reading from Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche and I've already bought more, her writing is incredible. This essay-length book has been adapted from Adiche's TED talk, showing an unique definition of feminism and the institutional behaviours of women, marginalising them in society. Adiche's uses experiences with different women, American and Nigerian, to relate to the different readers, especially in the work and home environments. There are explanations of why gender divide is harmful for both men and women, but instead of pointing the blame to men and the culture they're born/raised into, Adiche offers a way to step forward in a positive change - raising children differently, asking men to speak out about gender roles and to talk about gender, instead of it being an uncomfortable conversation.

This book should be read by everyone. Everyone. As Adiche said "we spend too much time teaching girls to worry about what boys think of them", this needs to change, we should all be feminists
