The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas

5.0

"I have always had more dread of a pen, a bottle of ink, and a sheet of paper, than of a sword or pistol."

How can I even express my thoughts for this book? It was brilliant from the first page to the last. Despite being massive, there isn't anything I would take out. If anything, I would add more.

Edmond Dantes is one of my favorite characters of all time. The complexity of this story and the twisting and turning that it takes to get there are brilliant. It's filled with characters that are good, ones that are bad, ones that walk a line between the two.

I'm contemplating a reread of this, despite the fact I just finished it a handful of days ago. It was that good. I'm sure this is a book that I will visit again and again. Definitely one of my favorite reads of 2020 and probably in my top ten favorites of all time.
