2001: A Space Odyssey
by Arthur C. Clarke
I first read this book in junior high, a good thirty years ago. While it is certainly a classic, it has some serious faults. This slim volume reads like half a novel - the dialogue so thin as to be almost nonexistent, the over-reliance on exposition makes it almost come off as some kind of detached second person narrative. It’s definitely worth a pass, but it really comes off as more of an extended movie treatment than a real novel. Or perhaps it is a code book for deciphering the meanings behind the much more ambiguous and complete motion picture.
