Split Tooth by Tanya Tagaq
5.0

I'm not one for poetry, but I've never read something like this before -- and thoroughly enjoy it. It's a stunning work of art, and I'm not even sure I understood some parts but the fact it is written so beautifully more than makes up for that. It's vividly descriptive in some parts but can be quite vague in others (in the best of ways that make you draw your own conclusions).

It's heartbreaking, tragic, makes you extremely uncomfortable, and is ultimately not one made for the reader to 'enjoy' in the typical sense. But that is what makes it an excellent book and you need to read it regardless.

I think perhaps reading Split Tooth as part of a book club or with some friends to discuss would be the best way to digest it - rereading it in the future is something I may consider - perhaps listening to the audiobook instead. It seems like the type of book you could unearth new significance in the narrative.
