Desert Flowers by Paul Pen

5.0

A unique idea for a story. I loved this book despite being angry about several of the plot points and the way the characters behaved. That said, I can understand why they made the choices they did, especially the pivotal character in the story.

This is a haunting read that will stay with you long after you read it. The desert descriptions are vivid and beautiful, yet the book reads as a page-turner. I found it hard to put down and would get frustrated when I had to stop reading for the night. I won't reiterate the blurb here, and don't want to give away any spoilers. I'll just say this could shape up to be one of my favorite reads for 2018.
