Lover Awakened
by J.R. Ward
Wow, there are no words to describe how much I loved this book!
I've been interested in reading Zsadist's story ever since I saw a bit of his POV in Lover Eternal (which I did not review). But I never expected to like him as much as I did—or rather, love him as much as I did.
Lover Awakened tells the story of Zsadist and Bella.
Zsadist is a member of the Black Dagger Brotherhood - a secret branch within the vampire society that includes only the strongest and fiercest vampires and protects the rest of them from their sworn enemies, the Lessers, humans without souls.
I fell for Zsadist almost instantly. He's a scarred worrier, outside and especially inside, filled with self hatred and self loathing and he is self depriving. To the rest of the world he looks like a soulless, mad, dangerous creatures. Something ruined, not broken. But when we got into his head, we got to see that wasn't really the case. Was he a little insane? Yes. But there was so much more to him. Good in him.
I cried for Zsadist, and I hated when he was misjudge. He is by far my most favorite of the brothers (so far).
Bella is a member of the vampire aristocracy, though she has been burned by their cold nature before and therefor doesn't put too much stock in their opinion. She is sweet, and kind, but also strong minded, independent, decisive and observant. In their relationship, Bella is often the more dominate one, which I loved, considering Zsadist is such a strong and "beastly" person.
The rest of the Brothers (and Butch) are as awesome as always. I cried for Thor. I wanted to hug John. I got really curious both about V and Butch, and what will come next (though I was also upset by the fact there was so little of Butch here :<)
Also, I love the BROMANCE in this series of books :>
As for the romance, I loved it.
First, it felt much less Insta-Love, though they still fell in love very quickly.
But due to Zsadist, it was that much more appealing to me than the first two stories. I was rooting for them, hoping for their happily ever-after.
Also, Zsadist didn't suddenly have a personality change when he feel for her. He did change, but the core of who he is remind intact. It was also more subtle, taking more time to happen, moving him from the area where he thought he didn't deserve her to the place where he wanted to make himself better so he will.
I hope the rest of the romances in the series would be like this one :)
The only thing I can say that was less than perfect for me in this story, was the POV changes. Aside for Zsadist and Bella's POVs, there were many more. Some managed to keep me interested and in the story, but others (like the Lessers') just threw me out of the story and I had to struggle through them to get back to my amazing Zsadist <3
Anyhows, I loved this book. I enjoyed the first two in the series, but this one was the first I truly adored.
If you're a fan of vampires, tortured love-interests and bromance, this book (and series) is definitely recommended for you :)
