I may be rating this book higher than I would normally because I enjoyed it unexpectedly. I didn’t like Christie’s writing style: it felt too sterile and fact-driven, and the ellipses made me crazy. Obviously, the racial and gender stereotypes were incredibly outdated. But the plot was addictive! The story was gripping and twisty, and I really was on the edge of my seat. I definitely did not predict the end (not for lack of trying). Will I read another Christie novel? Mmm… I could take it or leave it. In this day and age, there are more inclusive thrillers to read, but I can see how this paved the way for the classic “whodunnit”.
