Are You My Mother? by P.D. Eastman

1.0

Maybe I'm just too sensitive, but this book rubs me the wrong way. Having an adopted sister and knowing many adoptive families, the emphasis that you should look like your parents for them to be your parents is a little much. The cow tells the bird, "How could I be your mother?" Well, why can't you be his mother? I have a friend whose father is black and mother is white and when her parents split, she spent the rest of her childhood listening to people question whether or not she was "really" her mother's daughter. Sometimes even biological families don't look alike.
