The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo was one of my favorite reads of 2022. From the moment Evelyn stepped onto the scene, I was absolutely captivated. Her character is brimming with complexities (and more than a little bit messy), but I love her all the more for it.

Taylor Jenkins Reid takes readers on a journey through Evelyn's seven failed marriages through a combination of interviews and news articles, revealing just the right detail at just the right time. It would have been easy for Reid to make the common mistake of focusing on one relationship for too long, losing readers in the details of a dynamic that didn't push the plot forward - but Reid refrained, moving the plot along at the perfect pace.

While I did admittedly find the other characters less interesting than sparkling Evelyn (perhaps that was Reid's intention - all other characters appear dim when standing in the shadows of Reid's blinding light), Harry Cameron was an absolute gem in his own right. He captured my heart almost as much as dear Evelyn, and I shattered for him throughout the final pages of the book.

There's a quote from Monique early in the book that I feel perfectly summarizes Evelyn: "I'm starting to notice a pattern: Evelyn always leaves you hoping you'll get just a little bit more. And she always denies you." This book, like Evelyn, left me hoping I would get just a little bit more.
