Phantoms by Dean Koontz

1.0

My love for this story all started with a line from a movie "Affleck you the bomb in Phantoms, yo!"

It probably should have stopped there. I had never been as active as a reader as I have recently become, and so this book was never a priority. When I finally made it was I was greeted with disappointment. The overall thing I learned about myself reading this book is how much I am willing to suffer through just to see how a book and movie will be different. As usual they are very different.

The writing of this book felt so heavy handed at times I found myself just skimming paragraphs. Plot points are repeated three to four time and you are left feeling beaten to a pulp by them. I also cannot wrap my head around way I needed Tal Whitman's full name every other time he is mentioned. He was not the only one where first and last name were used repeatedly it is just the one that sticks in my head. The ending felt like a beginning writers attempt to pad a word count because they believe that more words equals a better story. Sadly they did not and took away a lot the enjoyment for me. I am not sure why the secondary characters needed to come back at all.

This to me was one time the movie was better than the book, and as much as I loved the movie, I can admit it too was bad.
