I’m glad I revisited this book. Some of what she said regarding her own imposter syndrome still really stung. That’s not a critique of the book, I just can’t relate to her experience as a whole because I’m not a black woman in the corporate/media world. And you don’t need to relate to every experience in a book! But I originally had to put this book down due to some of my own feelings towards a job I also felt forced out of.

These characters feel very REAL to the point where sometimes I wanted to yell “duh of COURSE that would happen!” And I will say I didn’t really like the way it ended.

I think the ending of the book was good though. It was a good way to end the story without wrapping everything up in a way that might feel rushed or forced.

I just REALLY hope Mickey decided to tell Lex about T. And I really hope T tells her girl about Mickey! Reading about infidelity is hard and sometimes makes me immediately go “oh so I hate you now.” Not to let Mickey off the hook but she was really going through something so I think everything that happened made sense. Just more proof that These characters felt very real!

I look forward to reading more from this author. Such good writing and I loved how descriptive she was.
