I came into this book with barely any knowledge and the synopsis itself is a bit vague as well. Was I expecting the events in this book to play out the way it did? Absolutely not. Did I enjoy it? Eh...

I am sure it was PD's intent all along but the masked friend group just gave me spoiled rich misfits. Of course, we got a few sneak peeks into some of their backstories but ultimately, they do what they want and the rest of the town simply follows. In my opinion, it wasn't even in a dominant alpha male kind of way but more of a "my daddy will bail me out if I get in trouble".

Our female protagonist, Erika has always had a thing for Michael, her ex's older brother. I guess I can't blame her when he has that whole dangerous and completely emotionally unavailable thing going on. Aside from this, the man is kind of stupid... The entire plot of the book is about a stupid misunderstanding that gets three guys locked up (rightfully so) and revenge on who they think did it. Can you guess where this is going? I feel like this book is kind of up there with Zodiac Academy with the whole bully trope. These men really plotted to ruin this poor girl's life over something THEY did and don't want to face consequences for. Erika was just a naive teen who wanted some excitement in her life so she decided to hang with the cool kids a few times. A stupid teenage decision that led her to be the prime suspect of betrayal when the misfit group's "prank" videos were leaked after a big fight. To be honest, if I were here I'd leak them anyway because these guys were portrayed to be complete douches and needed to face some kind of repercussions. I was simply not a fan of them. Michael did not seem enticing to me at all and his crazy little brother seemed like he was worse than the rest of them. Erika isn't absolved from criticism either as her playfulness and naivety landed her in way too many bad situations with people she knew she did not want to be involved with *cough cough literally everyone but Michael*.

Did I say I wasn't a fan of the misfit group? Because I'm not. Especially Damon's crazy ass.

The writing was nice but I ultimately was not a fan of a few plot points. Some of this just wasn't my cup of tea but I'm willing to hear the rest of the series out.

Onto the next one...
