The Practice of the Presence of God by Brother Lawrence
4.0
This is a great little book!
It is a curious and interesting reflection on a life of "lived faith," finding the presence of God in the most mundane and simple things. It is composed in brief excerpts, and can be read in a hurry. The challenge is to really take it in small sections, really spend time with it, considering what Brother Lawrence is sharing and trying to say through the voice of his abbot.
It is a fine example of a faithful life, but at the same time an intimidating challenge to even begin to exercise the faith that Brother Lawrence exhibited. In some ways, it can make one envious, covetous of such a strong inner life and trust in God's presence and how to recognize it.
A great starting point for personal reflection on God's presence not requiring grand, epic, heroic acts, but simple things like cleaning the kitchen or picking up straw, etc.
