Queen of Spades
by Madeline L. Moore
Thank you to the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
There is a really intriguing concept behind this book, but unfortunately it didn't shine through very well. It has good potential but I found myself having to push through the work, admittedly wanting to skim it.
It had my attention grasped in the first quarter but then it lacked the tension and intrigue to keep me entranced after that. The plot and characters are interesting but I couldn't get into the book after the first quarter.
The author does really well at world-building. However, I feel like the actions were lacking. While she described the settings and character's thoughts and feelings adequately, I didn't think it had a good balance of action to exposition. The actions felt lackluster and dull as it was already so well explained in advance. Maybe its an overabundance of exposition that drained the action and intrigue for me.
Overall, not a bad book just not for me. I would still recommend you check it out because there is a good plot to it so if you are fine with a lot of exposition, it might be perfect for you. Thank you to the author again for the ARC.
