Kingdom of Souls by Rena Barron

DNF @ page 178
I wanted so badly to like this book. I pushed to read it so hard, but in the end I just had to give up. The first hundred pages were so slow I couldn't read more than a chapter at a time, and it literally took me five days to read the first hundred pages. The inner monologue was so repetitive and nothing happened at all until the one hundred page mark, and then I just couldn't bring myself to care about anything. The tipping point for Arrah was over someone I hadn't been given a real chance to care for. The plot didn't seem structured well enough and certain reveals felt like they were given far too early, and were thus so unsatisfying.
It's so sad because the world was so interesting! And the concept of a child of two powerful witchdoctors unable to do magic herself was so interesting! But nothing else worked, and I just can't spend another six days slogging through it.
