Styles, Schools and Movements: The Essential Encyclopaedic Guide to Modern Art by Amy Dempsey

4.0

As this book isn’t aimed to entertain, but to educate by giving a rather ambitious overview of the art movements, schools ansd styles, I would have liked the inner structure of the chapters to be better. Sometimes it was hard to follow what are the specifics of the movement, styles, schools, what the influences, what did they influence and what are the most known artists. I would have prefered if the chapters all would have been set up the same way to make a quick view for certain aspects easier.
Overall it is a very good first step into the art world and has helped me a lot to get a good idea about where to place which artist and to figure out the links between schools, styles and movements.
