Dark Inside by Jeyn Roberts

Oh this book . . . I may be a tad too harsh on it. It wasn't necessarily bad. It just wasn't what I had hoped it would be. I've noticed I feel this way more and more about young adult novels.

My first issue with this story was the shifting points of view. While a minor gripe, I feel like it's worth pointing out that the author should not have used two male names beginning with M for two separate narrators. I was always getting Michael and Mason confused. The "Nothing" chapters made no sense to me, no matter how I tried to piece them together. Also, the fact that "nothing" is actually the main narrator (only one to use first person) makes me question the reliability of the entire story.

I did like parts of the story. I grew to like Aries quite a bit. I liked the bit with the old professor, and I liked Mason. Daniel was too shady for me. Ultimately, I think my number one issue with this novel was the lack of answers. I feel like I learned very little about the disease overall, and I really wanted more insight. Maybe it's time for me to graduate to adult horror, at least for a bit.
