We (that is to say I) love Forbidden or taboo romances for myriad reasons. The seeming wrongness of the couple, the sheer insurmountability of the obstacles, the steam, the whole forbiddenness of their love. But it is so, so tough to get it all just right, without it becoming tawdry or just plain sleazy. Saffron Kent is a brilliant writer and manages to weave together all these elements seamlessly to give us a pretty epic romance.

Willow is young, introverted, and a huge Harry Potter fan, she’s also a patient at a psychiatric facility. Dr. Simon Blackwood is her psychiatrist, and well known in his field. She might be the patient, but they’re both broken in their own ways, and make up the jagged, uneven pieces of an imperfectly perfect whole. Almost the moment they meet, there’s an instant attraction, an electric current between the two of them that they’re helpless to resist. But the author gives them the time to grow into their attraction, and eventually their feelings, while not compromising on the steam (oh the steam
