Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney

4.0

Greg Heffley is a conniving, back-stabbing, psychotic douchebag...and that's why i love him. He's a piece of shit who's largely unaware of how horrible his actions are. Greg is constantly picking on his younger brother Manny and putting his best friend, Rowley in bad, often dangerous, situations, and when he gets punished he acts shocked, as if he didn't just terrorize everyone within a 5-mile radius. But also he's just a silly little boy.

it's really funny to see parents giving this 1 star reviews because they believe all protagonists in children's lit should be rays of sunshine and that this is sending the wrong message to their kids as if the narrative agrees with Greg's actions (which it doesn't). He's clearly written to be a shithead that you sometimes feel sorry for, but shithead nonetheless.

Also i think something could be said about the cycle of abuse and gender norms and how these things shaped Greg into the troublemaker he is today...or whatever who cares it's a kid's book.
