while this novella was still about stories and storytelling, it felt just a bit more intimate than the previous three because the story was fully centered around chih, the neixin, and singing hills itself. it's about the difficulty of growing up and the inevitability of change, of returning home (if such a thing is even fully possible), of grief and transformation and devotion, and subtly about justice as well. myriad virtue's love for cleric thien just about destroyed me. just a lovely, melancholy read. I'm so mad, these keep getting better and better.
