The Eagle Has Landed by Jack Higgins

4.5

Came in expecting a fun thriller that may of leaned into a bit of classic men's adventure given the premise, but I definitely left with a lot more.

Before you begin the moral good and bad guys are predetermined but this tells a story of German soldiers and not high ranking Nazis.
These soldiers are human and the complexity of that is presented to the reader very well. There is so much empathy and sympathy woven through and you find yourself rooting for people on their character and not nationality.

I really enjoyed the little deviations into the philosophy and futility of war. Nothing could ever really capture those feelings but this book really brought home the humanity of it all.
