The Hypnotist's Love Story by Liane Moriarty
3.0
I picked this up off a beach reads table thinking it was going to be chick lit, but I really am not sure it fits the category. There is a lot going on in this book, and it's all pulled off really well. You assume the story is going to be about the Hypnotist of the title, but she shares equal stage time with the stalker. And while the hypnotist's portions are in third person, the stalker's are in first. (I think this doesn't really change much, because the hypnotist's portions are in that kind of all-knowing third person that might as well be first, but it delineates who's talking and is an interesting choice.)
I was surprised several times and had no idea where the plot was going to end up. That's pretty unusual in chick lit. And the characters were really well done and realistic, major and minor. All good.
So, this isn't the kind of book that makes it to the favorite list for me, but it's really well written and probably would have generated good discussion for book club. Heartily endorsed!
