I have really liked the books I’ve read by the author previously and this one is a departure from her usual style. Honestly, I wasn’t sure about the FMC for the first 15-20%. It just came off as odd to me that a solo female traveler was that sex crazed and eyeing every man off as a potential partner within 2 seconds of meeting him. The book kept hammering that point home and imo It would have benefited from dialling it back a notch as she was starting to come off as unhinged instead of sexually confident Thankfully I persisted past my initial inclination to DNF because I really ended up enjoying it. It almost felt like the FMC was written a certain way for the first 20% and then her character altered. I enjoyed several plot twists but wasn’t at all surprised by the big one, I feel that was pretty easy to spot early on. I still really enjoyed the journey and I didn’t pick who the murder was or their motivation. I love this new direction the author has taken and would love to read more in a similar vein. I had planned lots of chores to do today but felt compelled to read instead. My favourite book of hers I’ve so far and I’ve been reading her for close to 10 years.
