The Gate of the Feral Gods by Matt Dinniman
4.0
A massive pick up from the previous DCC book.
I really enjoyed this one, it was so much fun.
HOWEVER it also has my biggest gripe which is just.... everyone is such a Carl yesman they have no personality, like everyone listens to Carl even though multiple characters say "I can't believe we're going with Carl's idiot idea!!!" everyone just says "sounds dumb but let's do it!" and no one has any personality or agency outside of that. I am BEGGING for someone to have a personality outside of the main cast of Carl, Donut and Katia, PLEASE!
WHY DO THEY HAVE MORDECAI AS THEIR MANAGER IF THEY LITERALLY NEVER EVER FUCKING LISTEN TO HIM the amount of internal dialogue of Carl going "I'm sorry Mordecai..." and then making the exact opposite choice that Mordecai suggests is just??????? what is the actual point of Mordecai as a character if he is just never fucking listened to.
Those are probably my biggest gripes with this series that has been happening for the past 2ish books now. Not enough to turn me off from the series (although I think I will take a break for a little while) but gripes nonetheless.
