This book wasn’t for me at all. I wanted to DNF it but I push through it but I don’t know why. I wanted to read it because I was in the mood of a marriage of convenience type of book but it didn’t work as I wish.
1. The beginning was so slow.
2. There was no connection between the two main characters. Out of nowhere they started liking each other. And them not being together for majority of the book didn’t make sense. The reasoning behind it wasn’t good.
3. All the cliches about being black were there (silk pillow, silk press, braid for vacation, …). It’s like the author put everything she knew and learnt about being a black woman and it wasn’t subtle. As a black woman, it was too much.
4. The MMC having his best friends being African / black and him mainly listening to afrobeat and hip hop… come on now
The premise was good but the reality wasn’t it for me.
I usually never feel like that about a book. I don’t know what happened with this one…
