My Body by Emily Ratajkowski

challenging dark emotional informative reflective sad tense fast-paced

4.0

This book surprised me and I’m glad I read it. Did I pick it up because I follow Emily on Instagram? Yep. Did I assume she hired a ghost writer? At the beginning, also yep (something she directly addresses in one of the essays). After surpassing the initial curiosity, the author’s self-awareness was refreshingly clear. It goes without saying she has capitalized on the fame of her body, even using it one step further to write this book, and she is the first to admit that. I liked how thought provoking and honest this book turned out to be. There’s a lot of haters in the reviews, which parallels the many asshole comments she regularly gets after posting a sexy Instagram photo. The author is talking about her life experiences in this book, which is something she’s allowed to do. I find myself impressed by Emily. Yes, she’s very hot, but she’s also smart and self-aware. That’s pretty amazing. 3 stars rounded up to 4 to squash the (jealous) hate.
