Princeless Volume 1: Save Yourself
by Jeremy Whitley
As a little girl Princess Adrienne didn’t like fairy stories in which the fair princess is locked in a tower guarded by a dragon and rescued by a brave and handsome prince who slew the dragon to rescue her. Imagine how she feels now that she’s sixteen and locked in a tower guarded by a dragon and waiting to be rescued by a prince. So after finding a sword under her bed, she goes about liberating herself and her guardian, Sparky the dragon. She gets out of the tower, down to earth, practices her sword fighting skills, outfits herself with some armor, and then she and Sparky go off to save her sisters.
PrinceLess is an excellent all age adventure comic as well as pointed critique of traditional patriarchal gender roles in society and in the comics. Whitley has seasoned his tale with plenty of humor and Goodwin has supplied marvelous facial expressions for the characters.
