glh2004 's review for:
The Catcher in the Rye
by J.D. Salinger
This book is not my typical genre or style but I found I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. At first, it was irritating to read 'goddam' every other sentence, but as I read along I realised that it was more of a reflection of the character's personality - his story is written in his manner of speech which was quite original.
The story kind of wandered for a while, and there was no pronounced storyline, but I kind of liked following Holden's life for a few days and getting to know more about him and his time.
I wouldn't have read this for pleasure or have chosen it, but I thought it was good for a 'High School English Class' book/Classic and worth a read.
Content: The story touched upon heavier themes but nothing serious happened

I thought his relationship with Jane was sweet and I was disappointed that he never ended up calling her, but I guess he will have the time to. I like how he planned to turn himself around but part of me still thought it would be cool if he ran away and started a simple life.I wouldn't have read this for pleasure or have chosen it, but I thought it was good for a 'High School English Class' book/Classic and worth a read.
