Second time is the charm! I finished it this time.

A lot of my issues with this book come from the time it was published, so I’ll get to those in a second. What I loved - Daphne and Simon’s growth, their love for each other, the second epilogue! The Bridgerton family as a whole. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series, just to see how it works out for all of them.

There was a lot of dated, sexist, and ableist language in this book that didn’t age very well. While I can forgive a lot of the sexism that comes from being published in 2000, the ableism is harder to get past. Stuttering is a disability, and not something that needs to be cured or overcome. I just want that out there. Also, women can’t rape men, and consent can be revoked at any time.
Daphne raped Simon. That’s a fact. And it’s rough to read, even knowing it’s coming.
So like. There were some problems, but I enjoyed the story overall.

Also, men can’t feel hymens or know when they break. That’s just ridiculous.
