This was a pretty weird book and I'm struggling to figure out what to say about it. And I usually like strange and weird books, for the record.
Despite being 100ish pages, it felt like it took half the book to finally get to the action and the actual 'horror' stuff. And the first half does read incredibly slow. Even in the second half when things are happening, it doesn't feel fast-paced. Though I will say, the last few pages did have me tense in terms of what was going to happen to our three girls.
The way our main character talks about sexuality is not my favorite, but internalized homophobia is a thing, so I guess I can't complain too much. It's also not as explored as I thought it'd be.
I wish we got more time with Jameson and Reena, who I found far more interesting than Angie (our main character).
I don't think this book is aptly titled as 'Waif' is the title of a gang (mentioned on the back of the book), because the gang is briefly seen and mentioned. I also wanted to see more of them lol.
All in all, this was...okay, but definitely not what I expected when I read the blurb/back of book.
I'd also look up trigger warnings for this book before picking it up.
